Parent Application Note;
Covering the peaceful clouds with stressful thoughts and words.
Purpose: To provide emotional awareness and to materialize internal stimuli.
Application 1: In the picture, paint the inside of the scattered clouds with light blue; the clouds symbolize the peace in your natural being. Then sit quietly for a few minutes, breathe slowly, look at the peaceful clouds and feel the deep relaxation inside you.
Application 2: Using a darker color, cover the clouds by writing the people, situations or things that create anxiety in your life. Draw all the stressful things that come to mind. You can talk to your child about the things that make him/her anxious and worried through the picture.
Thought Detective
When anxiety and fear arise, we need to think like a detective... We call this the thought-capturing technique. You are a detective! What is the detective's job? He/she looks for evidence. What are the things that scare you? Let's draw these. Do you have evidence that will make the things you fear happen?
Purpose: To raise awareness on fear and anxiety.
ANXIETY MACHINE
Here, to draw the figure in your mind that worries the child and then make it funny.
Our purpose; To provide the child's sense of internal control and confidence. Who makes you anxious? I want to talk to you about Corona. What does your Corona look like? Let's think and draw... how can we make this Corona funny? How can we beat this Corona? Talking about what you do for hygiene... Yes, Corona cannot come to us and cannot harm us because we do these! Drawing the anxiety figure funny will allow your child to feel the power inside.
Parent Application Note;
MY ANXIETY BOX
Required material: An empty shoe box, you can cover the outside of this box together or paint it. You can make a hole on the box and make it so that the pictures can be thrown into the box.
The purpose of this activity is to stop thinking and to ensure that you talk about these thoughts at a certain time interval rather than a time period for anxiety and worry. Let's draw the thoughts that worry you on paper and put them in your box. Let's not deal with anxiety too much at that moment and let's open your box at the time we have determined and re-evaluate as detectives. If there is nothing left to worry your child after talking about the picture drawn, let's throw the picture in the trash along with your anxiety.
TELLING CHILDREN ABOUT ANXIETY...
Lion Example
In ancient times, people lived in caves. One of the difficulties that a prehistoric person often faced was to leave the cave in the morning and find himself face to face with a very large and hungry lion. IN THE FACE OF A DANGER LIKE A LION, THE BRAIN SENDS THE SIGNAL "DANGEEEEEEER !!" The body reacts by sending hormones such as adrenaline into the blood at lightning speed. This makes the body instantly stronger and faster. SO HE CAN FIGHT WITH THE LION (FIGHT) or run away very fast (RUN)
Notes to Parents...
Why do we feel anxious?
Anxiety; It is an emotion defined as restlessness and uneasiness. We have all felt this emotion in our lives. Anxiety is a NORMAL situation aimed at protecting itself.
When the body receives a danger signal, it reacts by secreting stress hormones and sending hormones called adrenaline into the blood at lightning speed. This makes the body stronger and faster. We call this the fight or flight response... We make a physical effort to fight or run away and our hormones disperse, and body chemistry quickly returns to normal. When we cannot escape or fight, these hormones do not disperse. In this case, it causes anxiety to grow inside us.”
